Last year I mentioned that I’d sold 5 new books. One of those I wasn’t able to mention at the time is my debut novel, Family, which is now available for pre-order from Earthling Publications!
Synopsis:
The Bennett family is broken. After a series of devastating events, they leave their old lives behind and start over in a new town. The move is supposed to give them a chance to heal and to help mend their familial bonds, but they soon discover some wounds run deeper than others, and they always leave scars.
And there’s something seriously wrong with their new house.
There’s a presence lurking within the walls, walking the halls at night, and it seems to know everything about the Bennetts. Their secrets, their desires…and their fears.
What starts out as mild paranormal activity quickly escalates into a full-on supernatural assault by an entity whose motives are as nebulous as its origins.
If the Bennetts hope to survive, they will have to confront the horrors of their past, forgive each other for the wrongs they’ve done, and come together as a single powerful force.
As FAMILY.
Family is being published in two editions:
500 numbered, offset printed, Smyth-sewn, cloth-covered hardcovers, signed by Ian Rogers, $60.
15 lettered, offset printed, Smyth-sewn, traycased hardcovers, both book and traycase completely hand made using the finest materials, signed by Ian Rogers, $TBD but at least $750 based on anticipated materials and labor.
Both editions feature artwork by Chris Nurse and an introduction by S.P. Miskowski.
Praise for Family and the work of Ian Rogers:
“A little bit Poltergeist, a little bit Us, a lot of Haunting of Hill House…but mostly itself, Ian Rogers’s Family is full of hidden passageways and trap doors and secrets. This is very much a novel of 2024, which means the monsters are not in the house, but inside us. As usual, Rogers proves twisty and not for the faint of heart.”
—Glen Hirshberg, author of Tell Me When I Disappear
“Rogers is a consummate master of supernatural terror and this, his gripping debut novel, is a startling showcase for his uncanny talents. Family is a haunted house story with a twist that keeps on twisting until it wrings the blood out of its titular subjects. Some books can only be read in the daylight hours and this is one of them.”
—David Demchuk, author of RED X
“Rogers is among the finest writers currently exploring the disturbing terrain of the suburban home. Prepare yourself for a strange and thrilling journey. You’re in the hands of an exceptionally talented storyteller. You won’t be disappointed.”
—S.P. Miskowski, author of The Best of Both Worlds
"Ian is a fantastic storyteller of horror. He has an ability to create a unique reading experience with great scares and memorable characters."
—Sam Raimi, writer-director of Evil Dead
“A talent for finding the terrifying in the seemingly ordinary... Every House is Haunted is classic horror in the style of Shirley Jackson, Richard Matheson, and early Stephen King.”
—Library Journal
The publication of an author’s first novel is an exciting milestone. Since Family was announced last week, I’ve been getting a lot of messages and emails asking about the book. So I decided to include a short section in this edition of my newsletter to answer the questions I’ve been asked the most.
FAQs
Will there be a trade paperback/ebook/audio edition of Family?
That’s the plan, although there is nothing on the horizon just yet. My agent is currently shopping those rights for the book, and I’ll be posting an update the moment I have something to report.
Will Family be available through bookstores or online retailers like Amazon?
No. Like most limited edition hardcovers, Family is only available through the publisher’s website and a handful of other specialty booksellers.
I thought Sycamore was your debut novel. Is that book still coming out?
Sycamore is definitely still coming out, but since Family is coming out first, it now qualifies as my debut novel. Family will be published in September, with Sycamore following close behind in October. And before those two, I have a third book, a hardcover novella, coming out from another publisher in August.
Three books in the same year? Are you nuts?
Maybe! On the one hand, I feel like I’m making up for lost time — since it’s been over a decade since the publication of my last book, Every House Is Haunted — while on the other, I put a lot of thought and consideration into the release of these books.
First, they’re all very different types of books. Family is a traditional suburban horror story in the vein of Poltergeist or The Amityville Horror. Sycamore is a supernatural detective story, and the first book in an ongoing series. And the novella is an action-fantasy that I’ve been describing as “John Wick with angels and demons.” (That one hasn’t been announced yet, so I’m afraid that’s all I can say about it for the time being.)
My hope is that there will be something for everyone in these books, which are all coming out in different formats from different publishers.
Tell me more about this edition of Family.
Family is being released as a deluxe limited edition hardcover. These are high-end productions that I think of as the sports cars of books. They’re made with finer materials and feature all kinds of exciting features and extras.
In the case of Family, this edition is limited to 500 numbered copies, 15 lettered copies, all of which are signed by the author (moi!), and feature interior artwork by Chris Nurse.
The fact that Family is my debut novel makes this edition even more special. A true collector’s item that you won’t want to miss out on.
(For more information about limited editions, check out the FAQ section on the Earthling Publications website.)
Here are a few pics from the signature sheet signing session, featuring myself and Wraith (and a great bottle of scotch).
I want to express my deepest thanks to Paul Miller for publishing Family, to Chris Nurse for his amazing artwork, and to S.P. Miskowski for her wonderful introduction. Thanks as well to the authors who read advanced copies of the book and kindly provided blurbs.
And last but never, ever least, a huge thank-you to everyone who pre-orders Family and for your continuing support of my work.
This is just the first of many new books I have coming out in the near future, so stay tuned for more exciting updates!
